Gail Thomas always knew she would work in a “nursery”, but thought it would be with plants, as her first degree was in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Botany. Gail has been, and continues to be, blessed working at St. Philip Early Learning Center (SPELC) nurturing the lives of the children, parents and staff that enter through our doors.
Gail started working at SPELC in 1989, as a teacher in the Emerald classes (3-4 year olds). During her teaching years, she has been fortunate to teach all of the levels at SPELC.
In August 1993, Gail went back to college and received a Certificate in Early Childhood Education, taking the required classes to receive her Director Qualification as per the Colorado State Rules and Regulations governing Child Care/Preschool Facilities.
Gail Thomas has been the Director since September of 1995. During that time, she has enjoyed promoting the development of a lifelong love of learning as well as lifelong friendships.
Our wonderful and loving staff consists of qualified individuals who enjoy working with young children. Our staff retention is extremely high, with an average of over 14 years. All Group Leaders (teachers) have formal education training and/or work experience in early childhood education and are qualified per the Colorado State Rules and Regulations governing Child Care/Preschool Facilities.
Our wonderful wacky Staff !!
SPELC is a member of the local Colorado affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) which offers seminars and workshops that our staff attend. The staff receives 15 hours of Professional Growth annually through seminars, workshops and in-house training on various early childhood topics.
All staff members are trained yearly in pediatric first aid, pediatric/adult CPR, and universal precautions.
Our governing board is made up of currently enrolled parents, church members and administrative staff.
The board oversees school finances as well as program activities, joys and concerns.
Parents are an important and vital part of the SPELC program. We enjoy and look forward to parents helping out in the Emerald and Pre-K classrooms on a regular basis. We have an open door policy, please stop by and visit.
