We bring our families together several times throughout the school year for Special Events at SPELC. We believe this is one of the many reasons the school feels like a community of parents, students and staff working together toward the same goal.
We celebrate the Birth of Christ with an all school Christmas Program followed by a cookies and punch reception in the Big Room. Our Pearl children parade through as “little angels”, Rubys and Emeralds sing songs, and our Pre-K classes perform the Nativity Play.
Our Moving-On Graduation Program celebrates the transition from preschool to kindergarten. The program includes the students singing a collection of songs, followed by commencement services where each child is called up individually to receive a graduation certificate. Families are then invited to join the staff and children for a reception following in the Big Room.
We hold an Open House on Wednesday proceeding the first day of school. Families are encouraged to come and meet their children’s teachers and other children in the classroom. This helps them become familiar and comfortable in our facility.
SPELC and The Lions Club, in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute, offers free vision screening for children 1 – 5 years of age in the month of September. Look for dates in our September Newsletter.
Why Vision Screening?
The screening can help determine the presence of eye disorders, including far and near-sightedness, astigmatism, strabismus (misaligned eyes), anisometroia (unequal refractive power), and media opacities (e.g. cataract).
Our staff observes and evaluates their students throughout the year to assess their development, physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively, creatively, and language skills and completes a “Progress Report”. This information provides the basis for parent/staff conferences held in February each year. Conferences are your opportunity to sit down with your child’s teacher and discuss your child in depth.
